About Little Marzi & me...

"You paint a baby chicken?"

Yeah, I was equally surprised. A few years ago, I had some chickens, got them as "day olds." We got 6 chickens, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Red Sex Link, 1 Dominique, 1 Ameraucana (who laid blue eggs!) and 1 Buff Orpington, the yellow chicken. My daughter named her "Marzipan" which got reduced to "Little Marzi." From the outset, she was a goofy, funny chicken. Yes, they all are, but Little Marzi more so. She was also the smallest chick, but as things often go, turned out to be the biggest one in the end. So, she's my muse.

I use Pentel Energel Needle Tip pens in various sizes, a wonderful Lamy fountain pen, and I paint exclusively with American Journey watercolor paint from Cheap Joe's Art Stuff and my favorite paper is  5" x 7" Fabriano cold pressed 140lbs extra white paper. Occasionally, I'll also paint on Strathmore 140lbs, but that is only for the 4" x 6" postcards. The bookmarks are the Fabriano paper cut down.

"Why don't you paint bigger?"

Honestly, a 5" x 7" painting can find its way onto a lot of spaces; walls, fridges, doors.
